SMALL EVERYDAY HABITS THAT CAN IMPROVE YOUR LIFE!
Throughout 2022 & 2023 I’ve been doing a lot of work on myself & tried to spend more time on self care, you can’t pour from an empty cup which is what I, and many many people do every day.
My kids are teenagers now with
Isabelle having just started University and, whilst they still need me for many
things, especially emotionally, the physical day to day things such as
organising play dates etc etc gets easier as they have so much more
independence now.
I ‘found podcasts’ last year which I
love to listen to whilst I’m driving. There’s a whole wealth of knowledge out
there and It’s opened up my mind to the importance of incorporating self care
in to my every day life and getting in to a good daily/weekly/monthly routine.
Gratitude & Journaling
This has been a game changer for me,
daily gratitude is so important. Despite difficult times in the economy, we still
all have a lot to be grateful for. Daily gratitude can be shown in many ways
but, I like to write in my journal every morning – 3 things I’m grateful for, 3
small goals for that day and 3 things I envisage happening.
Meditation
I don’t really meditate per say, I
just like to take 10 minutes in a morning to listen to a motivational
meditation video on YouTube which helps clear my head, relax me and put me in
the right mindset for the day.
Yoga
I’ve done pilates in the past which I
enjoyed but I’ve recently started Yoga which I find just as good physically,
but I love how it makes me feel mentally & spiritually. It really takes me
away from everything and clears my mind fully. I can’t recommend trying a local
Yoga class enough for your physical & mental well being.
Dog walks
(or just a daily walk if you don’t
have a dog)
Dog walks are just, everything!!!
Making my beautiful Dora happy with a lovely walk, daily exercise, fresh air
& making the most of the beautiful countryside where I live. I’m very
blessed to live where I live and to have my beautiful dog who makes me so happy
every single day.
Gardening
I found my love of gardening in
lockdown & it brings me a great deal of joy. We don’t have a big garden
which didn’t bother me when we first moved here as gardening wasn’t particularly
my thing but, since I’ve discovered what joy & mental well being gardening
gives me, when we move house, a bigger garden will be one of the things at the
top of my list.
Reading more
I’ve always loved reading but last year
I realised I didn’t read anywhere near as much as I used to. I made a pact at
the start of 2022 to read 2 books per month, however, I far surpassed that and
have read over 4 books per month which I’ve loved. Reading broadens the mind
& I love being constantly educated. Reading regularly is a wonderful
lifestyle non negotiable.
Writing
I discovered my love of writing a few
years ago, something I wish I’d done many years earlier when I was travelling.
I adore it & it’s wonderful for good mental health.
Daily Self Care
You really can’t pour from an empty
cup & daily self care is vital when leading such busy lives as we all do
these days.
Self care can be anything from a
bubble bath to an early night, a trip to the cinema or a walk. Anything that
makes you feel refreshed & that gives you time to re group & feel relaxed.
Affirmations
I love affirmations, they give me a
positive outlook and morning affirmations set you up in the right frame of mind
for the day ahead.
Recently I chose some of my favourite
affirmations and recorded myself saying them. It takes just 3 minutes per day
(less if you want) to listen to them which can be done whilst you’re getting
ready or in the car.
Podcasts
One of my favourite things to do,
especially whilst driving, is listening to a wide variety of podcasts. There is
a huge array from self care to celebrity chats, meditating to tv reviews. I
love them for the vast array of knowledge I accumulate from them making the
commute to work more worthwhile & educational as well as fun &
entertaining.
Getting Dora, my beautiful Cavachon
Getting a dog isn’t for everyone,
however I know a huge amount of people who would never be without their dogs, but
for me it’s on of the best things we’ve ever done as a family. Dora brings me love
& joy every single day, our walks together are wholesome and fun and no
matter what kind of a day you’ve had, no matter how upset or down you may be,
your dog always loves you and the greeting you get when you come home is simply
priceless.
