LIFESTYLE, LEISURE, PLACES & HOME

24 Hours alone in London!!

Last week Tony was delighted to be booked doing a balloon set up for a huge corporate event in London. This being a very busy period for us he had to go down & back in the day from our home in Yorkshire, so I decided to go with him and have a day to myself in London.

I adore visiting London and try to go as often as I can in the year. We do however often do similar things such as go to Covent Garden & see a show which I love but, as I was on my own I thought it would be a good opportunity to visit some other places I’ve wanted to see for a long time.

So I headed first to South Kensington to visit the V&A museum. This place really is incredible and I spent a wonderful couple of hours here before moving on. Next stop was High St Kensington & then Notting Hill, both bustling & fascinating parts of the city with so much to do & see. One day isn’t enough time to take these places in fully but they definitely piqued my interest enough to want to re visit very soon.

When I knew I’d be spending this day in London, 2 weeks earlier (when tickets are released) I booked a free ticket for the Sky Garden. The queue took about half an hour but the views once you are up there are amazing. 360 degrees of the city & a delicious glass of prosecco whilst enjoying the views. Well worth a visit but you must book your ticket exactly 2 weeks prior as they go very quickly & you wont just get in on the day.

It was lovely to see the city already looking festive & it was as busy & bustling as ever but that’s what cities are all about.

My last stop after hitting a few shops was The Alchemist in Leicester Square for dinner. I love this high end chain and try to visit at most cities I visit. The Leicester Square restaurant has a fabulous atmosphere with excellent food & service.

Being a busy person I do love having some time to myself now & again and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting some of the places I wanted to see in this fabulous city.

BEAUTY, HEALTH & STYLE

A heavenly facial & deep tissue back massage at Kosmetiko, Huddersfield

I’m very lucky to have this fabulous beauty spa & aesthetics clinic right on my doorstep & for my birthday I received a very generous voucher so I booked an appointment immediately.

I’ve been suffering from a great deal of tightness in my neck & shoulders recently, along with dry looking skin with the miserable weather we’ve been having so, one of the combined deep tissue massages & facials was the perfect choice for me.

Kimberley, the lovely owner, gives massages like no one else I’ve ever experienced and really did relive some of the pain & tightness in my neck & shoulders. The facial was just what I needed in the middle of a very busy & stressful period at work, and I came out feeling relaxed & rejuvenated. I had a wonderful morning at the clinic & will be booking again very soon.

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH

The Dunkirk – Denby Dale Huddersfield

In the surrounding areas of Huddersfield we’re blessed with some wonderful restaurants & The Dunkirk is no exception. It has recently been re furbished along with a fabulous new menu & reopened as the restaurant it is today in November 2020. Head Chef Darren Milner has created a beautiful menu with delicious, locally sourced food & it really is of exceptional quality. I’ve eaten here a few times since it reopened and on my most recent lunchtime visit I ordered the salmon. Perfectly cooked with wonderful side dishes, it really was an exceptional meal.

Situated in the picturesque West Yorkshire village of Denby Dale boasting countryside views, I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant if you are in the area.

 FILM/TV SHOW OF THE MONTH

Masterchef The Professionals

I’m a huge huge fan of all the Masterchef shows but the professional just tops the others in my opinion. The talent of these chefs is incredible & I love watching them go on this culinary journey.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘Behind the Shoulder Pads’ – Joan Collins

I was a big fan of the original Dynasty in the 80’s so I thought I’d give Joan Collin’s latest offering a go. If you’re looking for an easy & frivolous read then this is your book. It was just ‘ok’ in my opinion and to me just an excuse for her to brag & name drop to make her own career look better than it was because if you really analyse her work, her performances in both TV & Film wouldn’t set the world on fire. To me Dame Joan comes across as quite shallow and it felt like she’d embellished a few non-stories to make them into something for the book. If you’ve nothing better to read or you really are a Joan Collins superfan then you’ll love it but for me it was very average.

THIS MONTH I'M LOVING

Putting all my plans & goals for the future into practice!

THIS MONTH I'M NOT LOVING
