A WONDERFUL MINI BREAK IN LONDON WITH MY GORGEOUS SON!

As a treat for the end of Max’s GCSE’s I’d booked the 2 of us a 2 day break in London as a treat & some quality time with my boy.

So as soon as his Prom Suit was put away, the very next day we boarded the 9.30am train to London.

We stayed at the cheap (well not so cheap anymore) & cheerful Premiere Inn at Kings Cross which is ideally located, is clean & welcoming and you know exactly what you’re getting, including the ‘fill your boots breakfast’ the next morning. We certainly weren’t planning on spending much time at the hotel so a Premiere Inn is perfect for a short one night break.

After getting an early check-in we headed for Covent Garden to grab a bite to eat & then headed for the main part of our trip, going to watch ‘Back to the Future the Musical’. We’re huge fans of the movie so we were really excited for this.

Walking in to the Apollo Foyer was fabulous as it’s been created into a mini Hill Valley – for those familiar with the film – and the bars, merchandise & confectionary booths were all in character along with the rest of the theatre. This puts you in the mood immediately and it was buzzing.

The show was absolutely fabulous and Max loved every second and it completely lived up to his expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the effects and staging of this show are amazing, I just wasn’t blown away by any of the music but maybe I’m being too picky.

After leaving the theatre we made the short walk to Max’s restaurant choice for the evening – Hard Rock CafĂ© Piccadilly Circus. It’s a bit of a tradition of ours to go to a Hard Rock in every city we visit & we like this one.

The meal was as you expect from this type of restaurant, but we enjoyed it (apart from being a bit tense as the England v Slovakia match was on at the time!!!)

A nice wander round Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square & Covent Garden finished our fabulous day off really well before heading back to the hotel.

On the next day we woke up to sunshine again with a perfect temperature for walking around a busy city & after breakfast we set off for North Greenwich.

I’d booked us a trip on the Cable Car across the Thames which was a nice experience before we headed in to the O2 for a quick coffee break and look around.

I’ve never been in the O2 before and hadn’t realised quite how much was in there. It’s definitely somewhere I’ll be going back to next time I’m in London.

We then headed to Baker Street as I’d booked us tickets to Madame Tussauds. Each time we’ve visited London since the kids were young we’ve always included a London attraction in the trip and Madame Tussauds was one of the only things we hadn’t done. So, after a quick lunch at Pizza Express we headed in.

It's quite a fun experience, some of the waxworks are definitely better than others!!!!!!! It’s not somewhere we need to visit again but I’m glad we did it.

Max wanted to go back to Piccadilly Circus and from there we spent the afternoon walking from Piccadilly to Covent Garden to Trafalgar Square to The Horse Guards Parade to St James Park to Buckingham Palace and back to Leicester Square racking up 40,000 steps!!!!! However, we had a desert pit stop during the walk with Max having a stack of pancakes & me a delicious Mille-Feuille, so we probably ruined all the good we did with the walking!!!!

We were so lucky with the weather, and it was lovely to just walk from place to place taking in the sights of this fabulous city.

I’ve lived in London which isn’t for the faint-hearted, but it’s a city I adore going back to as many times a year as I can.

It was then time to head back for our train home after a wonderful 2 days of me & my gorgeous boy!
