20 THINGS MUMS & DAUGHTERS SHOULD DO TOGETHER
I’m utterly
blessed to be the mum of a beautiful daughter, my beautiful Isabelle Daisy, or
Belle as we call her at home. We’re very close and love to do lots of things
together & I love to make memories every year with her. She’s now just
turned 18 so obviously she wants to hang out with her friends a lot which I
wouldn’t have any other way and she’s also heading off to Uni in September, so
it’s now more important than ever to find time to have special times together.
I do spoil her but not to the point where she is ungrateful. Isabelle is a very
kind, caring and loving girl & is grateful for everything she has and does.
Of course she loves clothes, makeup and lovely things but, for her & I it’s
the special times and experiences we share that matter the most. Here are some
of the things we love to do together.
A CITY
BREAK TOGETHER
It's always
fun to explore a new city and what better way to do it than with mum &
daughter. Isabelle and I always have a couple of trips to London every year.
Once at Easter where we catch a show, eat in a fabulous restaurant, shop, drink
cocktails and visit a different attraction each time. Then, usually at the end
of the Summer holidays, last year we went to Wembley Stadium to watch Britain’s
Got Talent the Champions live and also to watch Loose Women live.
We also like
to visit new cities abroad and our next one is Berlin! #makingmemories
A
MARATHON DAY WATCHING THEIR FAVOURITE MOVIES/BINGE WATCHING YOUR FAVOURITE TV
SHOW TOGETHER
Isabelle and
I lead very busy lives & sometimes you need to just take a break and relax
for a while. What better way to do it than a day at home binge watching your
favourite to shows or movies. Luckily Isabelle and I love the same things and
we're currently binge ‘re’ watching ‘Bridgerton’ ready for the next series
& ‘Queen Charlotte’
A
SUNSHINE BREAK
Isabelle is
taking her A levels this year then we’re heading of on a Greek Island cruise
which we can’t wait for
FULL
DAY AT THE SPA
Isabelle
& I lovea full spa day, it's one of our favourite things to do in the world
and we often go with my mum & sister-in-law.
FOOD
& COCKTAILS AT A GORGEOUS RESTAURANT
Isabelle and
I love to dress up and go out and what better way to do it than a gorgeous
restaurant with cocktails. Tony & I have taken the children to nice
restaurants since they were young so they've always known how to behave and how
to order for themselves. #lifeskills #independence
A MUM
& DAUGHTER PROFESSIONAL PHOTO SHOOT
A couple of
Summers ago Isabelle and I had a fantastic day having a Mum and Daughter
makeover and photo shoot. The photos were amazing and such a lovely memento. I
will be booking another on very soon for some more up to date images.
A MUM
& DAUGHTER MAKEUP LESSON
This is
something I want to do before Christmas. Isabelle is amazing at her own makeup
but I want her to have a proper makeup lesson to learn a few more skills and to
find out what suits her skin tone and colouring. I, on the other hand, am now
in my late 40's so I'm ready to change a few things in my makeup routine so I
thought it would be a nice day out with a bit of shopping thrown in for Belle
and myself. Mac cosmetics do makeup lessons in store so I will be booking one
shortly.
TAKE
AN EXERCISE CLASS TOGETHER
For a
slightly older mum & daughter trying out a new exercise class such as Yoga,
Pilates or Zumba is a great bonding experience as these classes usually offer
different levels and going with your mum/daughter can encourage you to keep it
up.
A
SHOPPING TRIP IN A DIFFERENT CITY WITH LUNCH
What do Mum's
and daughters love more than a shopping trip in a fabulous city with lunch at a
lovely restaurant and a cocktail or two? Our last shopping trip was at the
Trinity shopping centre in Leeds which is our nearest large city. Our favourite
place for lunch in Leeds is The Alchemist with a couple of delicious
cocktails!!!!
GO FOR
AFTERNOON TEA
Isabelle
& I love the finer things in life and lovely experiences so this half term
I'm going to be taking her for afternoon tea at one of my favourite restaurants
in our home town 315 Bar & Restaurant. It's classy, elegant and something a
girl should experience with her mum.
GO TO
SEE A SHOW WITH A PRE SHOW MEAL & DRINKS
Being a
professional dancer and dance teacher, going to the Theatre is a common
occurrence in our family. Isabelle and I often go to see any new shows that
open on the West End or ones we love that are on tour and a pre show meal with
drinks makes it a lovely mum & daughter treat for us. We recently watched
Mamma Mia in London, with a fabulous pre show dinner at Gordon Ramsey's Maze
Grill.
GO ON
A LONG WALK (DOG WALK IF YOU HAVE ONE)
This is a
great opportunity to have a long talk without any distractions. Sometimes teens
can get wrapped up in their own worlds or get a bit stressed about exams, school,
friends etc. It's good to remind them from time to time that they can tell you
anything and you're there for them no matter what. It's also good just to put
the world to rights and laugh.
BAKE
OR COOK TOGETHER
This is a
great bonding experience with an end product all the family can enjoy. You're
also teaching her a valuable skill. Isabelle is enjoying cooking and baking at
the moment and her new thing is to cook the family tea on a Friday making a new
dish each week to broaden her repertoire ready for Uni.
SING
AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS ON A ROAD TRIP
This is a
great stress reliever, fun and exhilarating. Isabelle & I did this on a
recent road trip to the coast together and it was liberating.
LEARN
A NEW SKILL TOGETHER
At the
moment Isabelle is far too busy with college & A levels etc to do anything
else but for older mums and daughters learning a new skill such as flower
arranging, Pilates etc is a lovely way to bond more and to keep a regular date
to see each other when we all have such busy lives. A lunch or dinner date
before or after could be included in this too.
DO
SOMETHING CHARITABLE TOGETHER
A few years
ago, Isabelle, Max and I set up a small charity called The Angel Tree. We ask
people to buy just one extra Christmas gift for a child in care and we deliver
them to The Salvation Army before Christmas. These are sometimes the only gift
some of these children get and over the years we've donated hundreds of gifts.
It's something we really look forward to doing together every year.
GO TO
A CONCERT OR EVENT TOGETHER
Over the
years Isabelle and I have been to see Britain's Got Talent live at Wembley
& Little Mix on tour at Huddersfield's John Smith stadium. Both of these
were wonderful days and something for the memory bank!
DO
SOMETHING DARING
Isabelle is
not the most daring of girls (she’s a princess!!!! Lol!!!!!), so this is a
tough one. However, we're planning to go back to Florida next year and we plan
to swim with the Dolphins, go snorkelling & have fun jet skiing. I loved
all these things when I was travelling in my 20's and I know once Isabelle
fights her fears, she'll love them too and be glad she did it and pushed
herself out of her comfort zone.
EXPLORE
NEW PLACES AND ATTRACTIONS WHENEVER YOU HAVE A FREE WEEKEND
We love
nothing more than a weekend free from work or planned activities so we can go
somewhere we've never been to before such as a UK attraction or a mini break
weekend. We've got a bucket list full of places we want to see and things we
want to do.
GO OUT
FOR DESERT & A MOVIE
Simple but
fun. When a movie you both love is on at the Cinema, finish off a great evening
with your favourite deserts! Isabelle & I love to go to Heavenly deserts!!
Naughty but oh so very nice!
