LIFESTYLE, LEISURE, PLACES & HOME
Decluttering
There’s nothing clears your mind like a good declutter
& Tony and I have been on a mission these past few weeks.
With Tony working from home, me running my own business
plus my writing along with our balloon business, our half converted garage to
office just wasn’t big enough so we have now converted the whole garage. We had
been hoarding lots of things we didn’t need to and it was a great opportunity
for a big de clutter. It’s a mess whilst your doing it but it’s so worth it
afterwards. I feel like a weight has been lifted getting rid of so much junk
along with taking a lot to charity shops. Next stop – the dreaded loft needs
tackling!!!
BEAUTY, HEALTH & STYLE
Hair treatment
programme for my thinning hair
I’ve always had fine hair but over the past couple of
years it’s got much thinner & I needed to do something about it. I’m
currently going through perimenopause which I know can be a factor, however,
I’m at the point where I don’t want to wear my hair down anymore and I hate it.
I have just started going to see a trichologist in Liversage West Yorks and will
be going for weekly treatments for the next few weeks. She has also recommended
I get certain blood tests done with my Dr to see if there’s any underlying
issues. It’s an ongoing process so I will be recording my journey as I go
along.
RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH
Diggle Lock - Saddleworth
I adore going to Saddleworth & Uppermill for lovely
dog walks on the canal & a relaxing lunch in the various lovely eateries
followed by a visit to the wonderful Newbank Garden Centre. On our last visit
we decided on Diggle Lock for lunch, somewhere we’ve eaten at a few times
before, largely as its dog friendly & has a doggy menu.
It was extremely when we walked in on a very rainy
Friday lunch time, however I had booked us a table so we were seated
immediately. We were served fairly quickly as they took our drinks & lunch
order. Unfortunately when the food eventually arrived it had obviously been sat
on the pass for far too long and was stone cold. I can count on one hand the
amount of times Tony & I have ever complain or sent food back as we’re really
not complainers at all but sadly this had to go back as it wasn’t really
edible. Such a shame as the food is excellent usually. The staff were extremely
apologetic however & changed it immediately & even added a 10% discount
on our bill which we really didn’t ask for expect. The food was then delicious
& of its usual high standard, including Dora’s doggy sausage &
scrambled eggs which she devoured.
A great little rustic & quirky place for dog walkers
which we will still return to despite the blip with the food. I just think they
were too busy for the staff to cope with as they have a lot of tables which
were all full and perhaps not enough staff.
Don’t let this put you off as it’s a great place with
great food and this I’m sure, was just a one off.
COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH
Passion Fruit Coronation Cocktail
- 200ml Buckingham Palace Gin
- 3 tbsp No.1 Passion Fruit Curd
- 75ml bottle Champagne, chilled
- 24 raspberries
- 1 passion fruit (optional)
- In a jug, stir together the gin with the passion fruit curd. Cover
and set aside in the fridge if preparing in advance.
- When ready to serve, divide the gin mix between 8 cocktail glasses,
such as a coupe, then top up with Champagne.
- Place 2-3 raspberries into each glass, then add a little passion
fruit, if using, and serve.
Cook’s tip
For an alcohol-free version of this cocktail,
replace the gin with Sipsmith FreeGlider, and the Champagne with Belvoir
Elderflower Pressé.
FILM/TV SHOW OF THE MONTH
The Family Diaries – Billie & Greg
Yes it’s frivolous but I love it. Pure indulgence where
I can just switch off from everything else & enjoy.
BOOK OF THE MONTH
It starts with us – Colleen Hoover
I loved the first book &, although the sequel didn’t
have the best reviews, both Isabelle & I enjoyed it. It tied up the story
for me and I like Coleen Hoover’s style of writing. I will now be reading more
of her novels.
