21 THINGS MUMS & SONS SHOULD DO TOGETHER
My Max
As your little boy gets
older & then becomes a teen, it's not always 'cool' to be out and about
with your mum. However, a mum and son relationships is a very special one and
to keep your bond strong it's important to spend one on one time together. Max
is no different to any other 15 year old boy, he loves me a lot but sometimes
I'm the most embarrassing mum ever. However, when it comes to lovely treats,
deep down he loves us having time together x
CINEMA & PIZZA
DATE
You might not enjoy
your sons choice of film as much as your daughters but there's still nothing
better than a cinema date with your boy, popcorn and pick 'n' mix preceded or
followed by a meal at a pizza restaurant to have a good catch up. Boys can be a
closed book sometimes so having a meal together is a great way to get his full
attention and make him happy by filling his stomach!! Win win!!!
A MARATHON MOVIE DAY
AT HOME WITH POPCORN & SNACKS
As they get older, your
once cuddly boy may not be as keen on giving his mum hugs any more, and
certainly not when his mates are around. A movie day at home with blankets and
lots of snacks is a great way to connect and enjoy new movies or old favourites
together!
GO ON A ROAD TRIP TO
SOMEWHERE NEW
What could be better on
a free weekend than picking somewhere you've never been and taking a road trip
together. New sights, new experiences, mum & son bonding times, good food
and even better conversations as he's away from all his electronic
distractions.
VISIT A BIG CITY
We had a great trip to
New York last summer and it was fantastic exploring this amazing city together.
You don't have to go this far though, we have some great cities in the UK and
Max & I have spent lots of time in Manchester & Leeds waiting for
Isabelle whilst she was dancing and we've been to some great places.
COOK & BAKE
TOGETHER
This is a great bonding
experience with an end product all the family can enjoy. You're also teaching
her a valuable skill. Max is enjoying cooking and baking at the moment and I’ve
been teaching him a few dishes over summer to build up his repertoire.
GO ON A DOG WALK
This is a great way to
really talk with no distractions. Fresh air, being in touch with nature and not
a computer or Xbox in sight. We all take out gorgeous dog Dora out for walks at
different times but when we go together she absolutely loves it.
VISIT NEW PLACES
& ATTRACTIONS WHENEVER THERES A FREE WEEKEND
We love nothing more
than a weekend free from work or planned activities so we can go somewhere
we've never been to before such as a uk attraction or a mini break weekend.
We've got a bucket list full of places we want to see and things we want to do.
GO TRAMPOLINING
TOGETHER
As a younger boy this
was always one of Max's favourite things to do. He’s a bit old to go with me
now but he loves taking his younger cousins so I’m happy to take them &
watch!
BE AUDIENCE MEMBERS
ON A TV SHOW HE LIKES
Last year I got tickets
for us to be audience members on both Ninja Warrior and ‘Sam & Mark’s’ TV
show. These were both fantastic, Max loved them and it was a great new
experience for him. Tickets are free on ITV & BBC websites and it's easy to
apply for them with fingers crossed you get lucky.
TAKE HIM TO A
DIGITAL KIDS EVENT
If your boy likes Xbox
& YouTube etc like Max does then this is the perfect day out. We took Max a
few times when he was younger & he absolutely loved it.
TAKE HIM TO A
SPORTING EVENT OF HIS FAVOURITE SPORT
It's always fantastic
to see your favourite team play either supporting local sports or going to
bigger sporting events. Max goes to watch Huddersfield Town play from time to
time and I'd love to take him to Wimbledon at some point. He’s also getting in
to golf & plays with his dad & grandad and went to the Golf open this
year.
GO OUT FOR ICE CREAM
Simple, affordable and
just good old fashioned tasty fun!
GO ON A CYCLING TRIP
Another of Max's
favourite things to do. We have some lovely places to cycle near where we live
but one of the highlights of our NYC trip was all of us cycling around Central
Park for the day.
GO BOWLING
Who doesn't love an
afternoon bowling! Good fun, a little competition, honing your bowling skills
and quality time with no other distractions.
GO TO THE NINJA
WARRIOR EXPERIENCE
We’re going to the
Leeds one this summer & there’s a few based in various cities around the
country. A great interactive activity.
DO SOMETHING
CHARITABLE
A few years ago
Isabelle, Max and I set up a small charity called The Angel Tree. We ask people
to buy just one extra Christmas gift for a child in care and we deliver them to
The Salvation Army before Christmas. These are sometimes the only gift some of
these children get and over the years we've donated hundreds of gifts. It's
something we really look forward to doing together every year.
TAKE HIM OUT FOR
PANCAKES FOR BREAKFAST
I had to add this as
pancakes are Max's absolute favourite breakfast. One of his favourite things to
do on our New York trip was going out for breakfast and having a stack of
pancakes
SPEND A DAY PLAYING
BOARD GAMES/POOL/AIR HOCKEY/TABLE TENNIS
Good old fashioned fun
shouldn't be sniffed at and I find the days when electronics are put away and
we play a board game or have fun playing table tennis, pool or air hockey some
of the best family times to be had. Beware of them bringing out everyone's
competitive side though!!!!
DO SOMETHING DARING
Max loves lots of
outdoor activities especially water based ones so this is a fun one for him.
We're planning to go back to Florida next year and we hope to swim with the
Dolphins, go snorkelling & have fun jet skiing. I loved all these things
when I was travelling in my 20's and I know Max will love them too and be glad he
did it.
TAKE HIM
CLIMBING/GOLFING/SWIMMING/GO KARTING ETC ETC
All of these activities
are great to take your son to do during school holidays and weekends and are
all fantastic places to have fun together and bond. They can be family times or
you can invite friends but you can guarantee he'll have a great time.
GO TO THE WARNER
BROTHERS HARRY POTTER STUDIO TOUR
This was a must with
our family as Max absolutely loves Harry Potter. It was one of the best days
out we've had and I'm taking him again for his next birthday as he loved it so
much.
Whatever the activity,
spending quality time together & making memories is what’s important!
