A WHOLESOME WEEKEND IN THE BEAUTIFUL LAKE DISTRICT
After a wonderful January weekend in The Lakes with my 2 best friends last year, we decided to make it a tradition every January for something gorgeous to look forward to in this bleakest of months.
We loved the cottage we stayed in so much that we booked it again and had the most amazing & relaxing weekend.
There are 5 cottages in all, and we stayed in The Old Grainstore Cottage which, as the name suggests, is a beautifully renovated Grainstore from the original farm, with stunning, modern interiors and is extremely well equipped. The 2 bedrooms are spacious with modern showers & a beautiful free standing bathtub. I’ve only ever stayed in winter but there is also an outdoor dining area for the warmer months. 3 of the 5 cottages are also dog friendly.
The Cottages are ideally located being only approximately 20 minutes from Ambleside, Bowness, Windermere, Grasmere etc so it is very easy to explore a different location every day and, if you are a keen walker, you really are spoilt for choice in this stunning part of the country.
We chose to visit Ambleside on
our first day for a lovely stroll & a bit of shopping. We then chose
beautiful Bowness-on-Windermere for our evening meal as this charming area
boasts numerous fabulous restaurants & bars. The Lake District is busy
whatever time of year you go but January, whilst still bustling, is not quite as
busy as in the Spring & Summer. There was a lovely buzz & atmosphere
everywhere we went despite the chill in the air.
Whilst we couldn’t make a trip to The Lake District without a walk, this was more of a relaxing weekend, so we chose the smaller Orrest Head Walk for our second morning. The weather was clear & bright so the views at the top were simply stunning. There really isn’t a better place in the country to feel more refreshed and alive and it’s a place I will return to year after year like many many people do. If you haven’t visited, then I recommend you do so as soon as you possibly can.
I for one cannot wait to
return!
