HOT YOGA
From a young child up to being 30, dancing to a high standard and then becoming a professional dancer, exercise was part of my daily life. Throughout my late teens and 20’s I was also dedicated to the gym to keep myself in shape for my job. I had both my children in my early 30’s and since then I’ve dipped in & out of various types of exercise, some more successfully than others, but never re discovered any passion for anything. I’ve continued to exercise by running, pilates, swimming & the gym over the years to keep myself as fit as I can but none of them have ever brought me much pleasure, more like a chore to ‘get through’ as it’s good for me. Then a friend told me about a Hot Yoga studio which, ironically, is 10 minutes from my house & asked me to go along with her. Well I instantly loved it and have never looked back, now going religiously every Friday morning and fitting in other classes through the week when I can. Something about Yoga just resonated with me instantly and I connected with the spiritual side of it as well as the physical aspect. It’s an hour of strength training and complex sequences which are challenging as they should be but I grow a deeper understanding of the practice each week and I find it so beneficial for my body and especially my mind. We all lead busy lives and, when I’m on a treadmill or exercise bike I find it hard to switch my mind off yet with Yoga, it transports me to a ‘Zen’ place which is wonderful.
Why Hot Yoga?
At first I
wasn’t sure either, but it’s what this studio offers so I went with it.
However, I immediately understood & felt the benefits as my muscles
instantly felt warm & pliable ready to face the Vinyasas (smooth
transitions between the movements to put it simply).
Hot Yoga is
done in a sauna-like environment helping you de stress, whilst benefitting from
an intense workout and improving your strength and flexibility. It relaxes your
mind and encourages you to focus on your breathing and joins your breathe to
your movements through various poses.
Even having been a professional dancer, this isn’t an easy class by any means but it caters to all levels of age and fitness and many of the moves can be adapted until you gain more strength and understanding. Each week I gain more and more from the classes and it has now become my exercise passion!
