REVIEW OF ‘PETER PAN GOES WRONG’
My son Max loved watching Peter Pan
Goes Wrong when it was shown on TV so I bought us tickets to watch it live as
it’s currently touring the UK.
This touring production is visiting many UK venues over the next few months & we visited the Sheffield Lyceum Theatre to watch this hilarious production, and what a fantastic night we had! Firstly, mum & son time (especially when your son is 16) is priceless and the fact that he’s still happy to be seen out with me is always a bonus. We had a great meal at Bella Italia before the performance, but we could have had our pick of many excellent restaurants. Having not been to Sheffield for a long time, I was very impressed with the theatre & dining district along with excellent parking facilities which can often be a nightmare in some cities. I’ll definitely be looking out for productions in Sheffield from now on.
As soon as you sit down at the
theatre the cast are out and about at least half an hour before ‘curtain up’
time, involving the audience in ‘Cornley Drama Society’s’ antics! The programme
is also a hilarious read before the show even begins & the attention to
detail is incredible.
The split-second timing of this
outstanding production of chaos & mayhem is quite simply remarkable and the
cast, ‘crew, and real crew are hugely talented.
Side splitting laugher from start to
finish, I can’t imagine anyone not finding this a hugely funny &
entertaining treat, allowing the inner child in you come out again for a couple
of hours. Pure escapism and wicked wicked humour!!!!
The clever set is astonishing to watch and the hours that must have gone into rehearsing this slapstick physical comedy is mind blowing. One split second of wrong timing could end in disaster, but it is absolutely rehearsed to perfection. I really can’t praise the backstage crew and technical team enough as this cannot be an easy play to tour with. Saying that, the complex set is self-contained to be able to move easily from theatre to theatre & the permanent crew tour with the company. I cannot imagine the health & safety measures they have to go through for this play!
This wonderful performance gained an
extremely well-deserved standing ovation tonight.
Simply brilliant!!!
