A SPRING LIFE-RESET
I often feel that ‘new year new me’ type
declarations can put a lot of pressure on at the beginning of a New Year and
then, if you don’t live up to all your own expectations within the first week
of January you feel like you’ve failed yourself! I’ve been guilty of this
myself many many times and so over the past few years I’ve enjoyed giving my
life a makeover in the Spring.
January is hard anyway at the best of times, you
can feel quite sluggish, you’ve overspent and, when it’s cold & dark
outside its very hard to feel motivated. I adore winter pre Christmas but let’s
face it, January kind of sucks (don’t tell my son Max I said that though as
it’s his birthday month!!!).
By the Spring I know I feel like a different person, the days are getting longer, the weather is improving, the flowers are blooming and I certainly have a new ‘Spring in my step’ pardon the pun!!
Spring is a time of new life & rebirth!
This is why a spring clean is popular and we can start getting our gardens back in order and I know I always feel happier when we can see a bit of sunshine peeping through the dark clouds of Winter.
As Spring approaches, I like to make my to do
lists for the home, garden and life plans for Easter & Summer. Unlike
Christmas, Easter is a bit less manic & stressful so it’s a perfect time to
do any DIY and enjoy time at home and with family or planning lovely local days
out as the weather improves.
Everything seems more positive in the Spring for
me somehow, with new beginnings everywhere as the flowers bloom and you see
lambs in the fields. I love my morning routine of Yoga, Meditation &
Gratitude as I look forward to the day ahead & I somehow achieve so much
more when I’m positive and happy.
Tips for
a pre Spring re-set
1. Spend a
few hours de cluttering your closet, getting rid of anything you don’t wear,
packing away your Winter wardrobe and getting your Spring clothes out.
2. Spend a
day giving your home a deep clean, light your fresh linen candles & hang
your laundry outside on the line to dry. A clean & gorgeous smelling home
always makes you feel fabulous, accomplished and in control of your life!
3. Get out
in your garden and give it a good tidy. Tend to the plants & flowers that
are re-awakening, get rid of any that haven’t made it and get planting your vegetables
& plants! Then see what’s going to need doing over the next few weeks such
as painting fences or replacing rusty furniture.
4. Go
through all your kitchen cupboards throwing away any out of date tins &
jars, tidying tupperware containers & drinks bottles and clean out all your
drawers.
5. Make a
list of any DIY you want to do around the house over the coming weeks.
6. Let the
outside in. Open your windows and let the fresh air & sunshine in at every
opportunity. Fresh air is healing & rejuvenating.
7. Take
stock of your exercise regime and see if it needs a shake up for the Spring
& Summer months.
8. Sort
your home décor accessories. If you love to bring the change of the seasons
into your home, now is the time to put your Spring or Easter wreaths on the
front door & maybe change your winter soft furnishings for lighter Spring
colours.
9. Buy
fresh Spring flowers. To me there’s nothing better than beautiful fresh
seasonal flowers in the home to make it feel homely & polished.
10. Be ready for some Spring & Summer Fun!
