Balloons & Dreams

Early 2023 Tony my husband & I started up a small side business making bespoke balloon creations for occasions & events. It has gone from strength to strength and we have provided balloon displays for many many events now including a huge corporate event in Central London. We are based in West Yorkshire and can deliver to most places in & around this area. Here are a few photographs of some of our most recent creations. BEAUTY, HEALTH & STYLE

Dry February

January is always a busy month for me and this year especially was full of social events & mini breaks so dry January wasn’t an option for me. However, after quite a bit of overindulging in December & January I felt I needed to do a completely dry February. To be honest I’ve found it quite easy really as its been a busy work month so I’ve been focusing on that and have deliberately not booked many things socially to avoid temptation. The 1st March is Belle’s birthday and we’re going to Tattu in Leeds so I’ll definitely be breaking my drought that day. However, under normal circumstances I’m not a huge drinker but December & January I did overdo it a bit. Not drinking throughout February definitely had huge benefits, my skin feels better, I slept much better on the whole and I lost a few pounds so, although I’m not doing dry March, April etc etc I will definitely only be having a drink once a week at the most as although I enjoy a drink, feeling fresh, well rested and less sluggish is definitely much preferable. I think dry February is going to be my annual resolution from now onwards.

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH

Miller & Carter Mirfield

Being a steak lover this restaurant is right up my street & I’ve dined at a few different Miller & Carter restaurants around the UK. For a chain restaurant the food is a high standard compared to many.

Living in Huddersfield, I’ve visited the Mirfield restaurant a few times & the service, food & drinks have always been first class and the steak cooked to absolute perfection.

It’s not a cheap night out but it’s not ridiculously expensive either. For a family of 4 it is definitely value for money and Miller & Carter is a chain I trust and will return to whichever city I’m in if I’m looking for a great steak!

COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH

Alcohol Free Passion Fruit Martini (as I’m doing dry February!!)

Ingredients

3 passion fruits halved

1 lemon juiced

1 egg white

100ml alcohol free spirit

2 tsp sugar syrup

Handful of ice

Sparkling grape juice to serve

Method

1.    Scoop the flesh from four of the passion fruit halves into a cocktail shaker. Add the lemon juice, egg white, spirit and syrup & shake vigorously until frothy

2.    Add the ice and shake again until the outside of the shaker feels cold. Double strain into martini glasses

3.    Top up the martinis with the grape juice and garnish with the remaining passion fruit halves

FILM/TV SHOW OF THE MONTH

Dragons Den

I used to watch Dragons Den a few years ago but stopped watching it for a while, I’m unsure as to why. I started watching this series and I’m completely hooked, so much so that I’ve binge watched all last season too. I’d definitely pick Peter Jones or Steven Bartlett if I got an offer from them, although I do love Sara Davies & Deborah Meaden too!!!!

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Call the Midwife – Jennifer Worth

I adore the TV series and look forward to it greatly every Sunday evening so my husband Tony bought me the book recently which I’ve been wanting to read for a while. You can really ‘feel’ the East End of London when you read this book & it gripped me from start to finish. The television series goes into great detail and the book just backed it all up for me. I highly recommend this book.
