MY 5 GOLDEN LIFE RULES!

ALWAYS BE A STUDENT

The day you think you know everything is the day you stop learning & progressing! We never stop learning no matter how old we are which is vital to keep us relevant and inquisitive. To be honest, regardless of my education and early career, I’m definitely more open to learning new things the older I get and I absolutely embrace it.

PUT FAMILY & FRIENDS BEFORE WORK

The saying goes – ‘if you dropped dead tomorrow, you’d be replaced in your job within a week & this really is true. As somebody who has a job they’re passionate about, I do give a lot of my time and energy to it, in the past it’s been too much time at the expense of my home life. As I’ve got older I’m so much better at putting my boundaries in place and family & friends ALWAYS come first.

GET RID OF TOXIC PEOPLE

Like many people, I’ve learnt this the hard way but, getting rid of 2 hugely toxic people in my life is the best thing I ever did for my happiness, well-being & mental health. Do I regret them ever being in my life? Absolutely not!!! I learnt so much about myself, the kind of person I absolutely wouldn’t want to be and it helped me work on the person I am and continue to aspire to be. Sometimes the worst part of your life, dealing with horrific people, can be the time that taught you the most.

HELP OTHERS & BE KIND

This should go without saying but, in a world where people can hide behind their keyboards on social media, it’s frightening & sad how many people can be so cruel to others. Practicing kindness brightens someone’s day and enhances your life too. Unkindness hurts others but also hardens your own heart. Life is too short – always choose kindness.

SELF CONFIDENCE & SELF CARE IS KEY!

Self-confidence is something I’ve had to work extremely hard on, it didn’t come naturally. But I can honestly say in my 40’s I’ve been the most confident in myself I’ve ever been and it has improved my life hugely. Self Confidence is a trust in yourself that you ARE the best for the job and that you CAN do something you’re worried about. It’s a state of mind that you have to work on constantly by how to talk to yourself so that it eventually becomes second nature.

This must also include self-care. As the saying goes, self-care isn’t selfish, it’s vital to live a happy, healthy & fulfilled life. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
