HOW TO AVOID BURN-OUT THIS WEEK!
I’ve recently been quite ill with bronchitis and it’s really knocked me sideways. I’ve never been a sickly person but, the last few months have been extremely busy with very little time off & time to myself which has left me extremely tired and close to burn-out so an illness was inevitable really. I’m also approaching 50 and I need to realise I can’t push myself quite as much as I always have in the past.
It has however made me take stock
& look at my lifestyle as I urgently need to inject much more self-care
& 'down time' into my life.
If you are experiencing feelings of
burn-out and exhaustion it’s usually time to take a step back and look at how
you can improve things.
I’ve started implementing a few
things into my life on a daily basis to help me look after my health, mind,
body & soul.
1.
Give yourself enough time in a morning to set yourself up for the day
rather than rushing & feeling stressed before you even leave the house.
2.
Start the day for ‘you’ not the company you work for.
3.
Speak to yourself with kindness as you would a friend.
4.
Do something that brings you joy before work, on your lunch break or
after work.
5.
Set & stand by your boundaries.
6.
Elevate your life in every area such as beautiful bedding, good
underwear, lovely crockery.
7.
Know that work is what you do, it’s not who you are.
8.
Practice gratitude daily.
9.
Plan everything the night before such as your outfit to eliminate stress
in the morning.
10.
Give yourself weekly pampering sessions such as a candle lit bubble bath,
a home facial and a pedicure etc.
11.
Move your body daily.
12.
It’s a cliché but drink lots of water to hydrate and eat a well-balanced
& healthy diet.
13.
Avoid too much alcohol, ‘needing a drink’ because you are stressed is a
very temporary solution and can make things far worse in the long run.
14.
Talk to someone you really trust.
15.
Try to take back control by delegating, prioritising, being firm about
your needs & leaving work at work.
However, If your symptoms are more
serious you must seek professional help.
