HOW TO ROMANTICISE YOUR LIFE! FINDING THE JOY IN THE EVERYDAY!
As Mid-life approaches,
we realise how important it is to make the most of every moment & I’ve
always been a big believer that you should burn the best candle, use your best
crockery & wear your best underwear on a daily basis and not wait for that
special occasion – today is a special occasion. You are the protagonist in your
life so why not romanticize it every day by implementing some lovely touches. By
doing so, you befriend and appreciate yourself more and it shifts your mindset to
make you realise you deserve to make your life just that little bit more special
every day.
These are some
that I love and that help me romanticize and elevate my life.
1.
Always have fresh flowers in the house.
2.
Take yourself out for lunch. It’s lovely
to go with friends or a partner but why not treat yourself now and again if you
fancy lunch out. One of the fabulous things mid-life brings is the confidence
to do what you want, when you want.
3.
Create a curated playlist of music you
love to lift your mood.
4.
Create a go to podcast playlist or join
audible. It’s wonderful to immerse yourself in new perspectives and continue
learning every day.
5.
Move things around in the home. Sometimes
just rearranging the furniture invigorates the home with new energy.
6.
Plan yourself the perfect day – if you
have a day off to yourself why not plan a wonderful day of your favourite
simple pleasures such as coffee & a cake in a lovely café, a shopping trip,
lunch out, a glass of wine somewhere special – whatever small touches that would make a day special
for you – and dress up for it too.
7.
Make a ‘Bounce back Bible’ list. I have a
list of simple pleasures that’s my ‘go to’ if I’m having a bad day which
includes things like watch an episode of a favourite TV show, have a luxurious
bubble bath, by myself my favourite flowers etc.
8.
Take your time & give yourself the
grace to do so – rushing isn’t fun and causes your stress levels to rise. Of
course it’s sometimes unavoidable but, try to carve out enough time so that you
can slowly & mindfully enjoy what you’re doing or how you are getting
somewhere.
9.
Savour a really good glass of wine. Don’t
just down a glass when you get in from work, light a candle, pour a glass, sit
down and remember that pleasure is meant to be savoured slowly. Make sure it’s
in a beautiful wine glass.
10. Give
yourself time, put some music on & set the lighting to create a lovely mood
when cooking which makes it a much more pleasurable experience. Then serve it
on your best crockery.
11. Dance
it out – raise your endorphins and dance around the home – why not?!!
12. Surround
yourself with beautiful scent – either your favourite candles, beautiful room
sprays, fresh flowers.
13. Dress
up for no reason – if you look good you feel good.
14. Take
a drive with lovely scenery for no reason – put on your favourite playlist, a
podcast or an audio book and just enjoy the drive.
15. Take
a luxurious bath, light a candle, play some beautiful music, pour a glass of
wine and just relax and enjoy the moment.
16. Switch
off your phone & read a book.
17. Pick
up a new hobby that brings joy to your life such as gardening, cooking, researching
your family tree, knitting. Hobbies keep us curious and help us to continue to
grow as a person.
18. Appreciate
yourself – appreciate all the things you can do and that you are good at rather
than focusing on what you can’t.
19. Always
sleep on beautiful bedding and wear beautiful nightwear.
20. Take
a daily walk – it’s good for your mind, body & soul.
21. Go
to the cinema regularly – either with a partner, friend or on your own.
22. Do
a weekly home facial – every Sunday morning always give myself a home facial,
put on a face mask and really elevate my skincare.
23. Get
yourself a special mug for your morning drink.
24. Practice
positive affirmations every day.
25. Make
your home cosy with blankets, lovely cushions, beautiful lighting and gorgeous
candles so that every day feels special.
26. Dress
up for no reason & wear colours not all black.
27. Put
some thought into your bedside table and don’t use it as a dumping ground. Make
it a place only for your lamp, a pillow spray, a glass of water, your current
book and a Gua Sha to use every night when you first get in bed.
28. Find
your signature scent and wear it every day!
29. Do
things for others – simple good deeds for other people makes both them &
you feel wonderful.
30. Practice
gratitude daily!
